Happy July 5th!
Happy July 5th quilty friends! I know, I know…I’m a day late and a dollar short, but it’s fine! Everything is fine! I took a little break this week after releasing my very first ever quilt pattern All Roads Lead Home just to breath and relax a little bit.
To say it’s been a frenzied few months is to put it mildly. Between wrapping up the school year, end-of-year awards, graduating my senior, working on samples, finalizing my pattern, doctor’s appointments I’ve been putting off all school year, general Spring/Summer cleaning, etc. it’s been a tad hectic! And as if that were not enough, 4th of July was upon me in the blink of an eye and just like that, the countdown to going back to school has begun! Wahhh!!!! My first day back to school is officially July 26th. No, that is not a mistake. Our first day back is in July folks! Terrible! But, there’s still summer to be had and I’m grasping it with both hands and enjoying every minute of it before it’s gone.
This week I had the chance to work on something just for funsies thanks to my quilty friend Regina who was bequeathed these amazingly saucy, and quite frankly, slightly smutty, patriotic fabrics by a friends’ grandmother (yas grandma!). When she told me what she had, nothing prepared me for seeing Abe Lincoln in such a state, and can we just take a moment to admire the abs on the Sons of Liberty Drummer Boys? Can’t speak to historical accuracy here, but come on?! Who can resist?
Thanks to Regina and her friends’ Grandma for their extreme generosity, I got to work on a special patriotic quilt for my precious oldest son who is moving to Seattle in August. He was very excited when I showed him my progress and posted it to his stories. It’s kind of funny when your kids talk about you on their social media…Kind of give me all the feels 😀
Next up for me and Mr. Wood Lily Studio is a family vacation to the sunny southern shores of Lake Michigan. Headed to our favorite family spot in Union Pier for some fun relaxation and lake glass hunting. Let me just tell you, if you’ve never been to this part of the country, you’re definitely missing out! It is beautiful and my happy place. Stay tuned to my next post and I will share some photos.
First stop on the family vacay will be Greenville, OH so that Mr. Wood Lily Studio can have himself a Maid-Rite sandwich and a Cherry Shake! Some things you just have to grow up eating to understand! While we are in Harbor Country, we will spend a day in Chicago where we will hit up the Shed Aquarium and top off the visit with milkshakes at the Giradelli Chicago Ice Cream Shop on Michigan Avenue.
While we are in Harbor Country, the kids have declared that it is a family tradition to have ice cream at Oinks every single night of our stay. I’m definitely gonna gain a couple of happy pounds while I’m there I think. Last on our loosely planned vacation, we’re headed to Charlavoix and Mackinac Island to enjoy some of what the Upper Peninsula has to offer.
That’s all I’ve got for you today, but I hope you all had a great 4th of July holiday and keep creating my quilty friends! I’ll be back soon!
XOXO, Ceci
